The primary purpose of thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) is to regulate the temperature of each individual radiator in a home or office environment. This ensures that rooms stay at the desired temperature, while also allowing users to save energy by only heating the areas that need it. TRVs work by using a temperature-sensitive element to detect the air temperature in the room and adjust the flow of hot water to the radiator accordingly. This allows for more effective and efficient heating, as well as greater control over the temperature of individual rooms.

Help!? What are all these different Radiator Valves?

OK, let's take it from the top. Essentially there are two main types of radiator valves available - manual and thermostatic.

Manual valves are best used when the temperature of the room needs to be controlled, while thermostatic valves are best suited for safety purposes, such as the lockshield valve.

Then you come into Straight vs Angled. Angled radiator valves are typically used for pipework that comes out of the wall or from below the floorboards, while straight radiator valves are most commonly used for pipework that comes from the floor or up from the ground. Corner radiator valves are best for pipework that comes from the floor and is in a corner.

What's the difference between a Thermostatic Radiator Valve and a Manual Radiator Valve?

Thermostatic radiator valves (TRV) and manual radiator valves (MRV) are two types of fittings that are used to control water heating in radiators. TRVs are designed to automatically regulate the temperature in a room, while MRVs require you to manually adjust the temperature.

TRVs use a built-in thermostat to sense the temperature in the room and adjust the flow of hot water accordingly. This helps to ensure that the temperature in the room remains at a constant level and is not affected by external factors, such as opening a window or the sun shining through a window.

MRVs, on the other hand, require you to manually adjust the temperature in the room. This is done by turning the valve to the desired temperature and then manually monitoring the temperature in the room. This can be a bit more tedious than using a TRV, as you will need to adjust the valve frequently in order to maintain the desired temperature.

Overall, TRVs are more convenient and efficient than MRVs, and are therefore becoming increasingly popular in homes around the world. They provide a more consistent temperature in the room, while also helping to conserve energy.

Straight or Angled Radiator Valves?

Unlike a straight radiator valve, an angled radiator valve is fitted at an angle of around 90 degrees to the radiator, meaning it is easier to connect the valve to the radiator. It is also possible to fit an angled valve in tight spaces, since it angles away from the radiator rather than running alongside it.
